To Be Hosted dinner parties are about the people -- the people eating, the people cooking, the people serving -- everyone. We are all in it together, and we are all committed to having a great time. Our dinner parties maintain the highest standards in hospitality, while rejecting the pretentious vibe that typically surrounds fine dining. Will there be fancy glassware? Sure and fresh flowers, too. But there will also be rap music, streetwear, and a hella seasoned main course.

To Be Hosted dinner parties are a feeling, a memory, an experience. Whether it is a dish that reminds you of home or an impromptu sing along of Erykah Badu’s Bag Lady, we get it -- we know just what you need. The To Be Hosted team hand-selects every detail so you can relax, engage with your fellow diners, and immerse yourself in the experience of being a guest.
At the first To Be Hosted dinner party, she invited 24 guests to a small co-working space in lower Manhattan. That evening we watched strangers begin to interact like old friends. At that moment, we knew we had tapped into a new standard for dining out. A few months later, at a dinner party in Harlem, as guests began to sing along to Erykah Badu’s Bag Lady, we knew that our dinner parties had that special aura that guests would keep our diners coming back.
We look beyond just one “seat at the table” to focus on how we can create more equitable and interesting social gatherings. At the heart of our dinner parties are Black chefs, musicians and artists that make our experiences truly unique. For more than 400 years, Black culture has shaped American food, music, and the arts. Our mission is to celebrate Black culture through highly intentional dining experiences, while creating safe spaces for everyone to eat, learn, and grow together.

Founder Amber Mayfield started To Be Hosted when she saw a need for dining experiences that would excite and connect multicultural audiences. In 2017, she began by inviting 24 strangers to an unexpected location for a dinner party with live music and a few other surprises promised. By the end of the event, these strangers were talking, laughing, and exchanging stories like they were old friends. From this night, a community was born.
Since then, To Be Hosted has grown into a boutique agency specializing in intimate and immersive experiences for foodies. Through event services and home entertaining resources, To Be Hosted aims to bring people together intentionally, while doing our part to elevate multicultural perspectives in food and entertaining.
